Overview

Generative engine optimization, usually shortened to GEO, is the practice of structuring web content so that AI answer engines can find it, extract a correct answer from it and attribute that answer to your brand. It sits next to classic SEO rather than replacing it: search engines still crawl and index, but an increasing share of users read a generated summary instead of a list of links.

Moon Workshop approaches both from the same foundation. A page that is technically sound, factually clear and properly structured performs well in both surfaces. A page that is vague performs well in neither.

Where SEO and GEO overlap, and where they diverge

Dimension Classic SEO GEO
Goal Rank in a results list Be quoted in a generated answer
Unit of success The page The passage
Key signals Links, relevance, authority Extractability, factual clarity, entity precision
Formatting priority Headings, keywords Definitions, tables, question-form headings
Measurement Rankings, clicks, impressions Citations, mentions, referral patterns

The shared foundation is large: crawlability, site speed, internal linking, structured data and genuinely useful content serve both. The divergence is mostly in how content is written and formatted.

Technical foundation comes first

Content strategy on a broken site is wasted effort. Our audit covers:

  1. Crawl and index health — what Google can reach, what it chose not to index, and why
  2. Site architecture — click depth, orphan pages, internal link distribution
  3. Core Web Vitals — largest contentful paint, interaction latency, layout stability
  4. Canonical and duplication handling — parameter URLs, pagination, faceted navigation
  5. Hreflang correctness — the most commonly broken element in multilingual sites
  6. Structured data validity — errors, warnings and missing entity connections

Findings are delivered as a prioritized backlog with effort and impact estimates, not as a 200-page PDF nobody reads.

Structured data as a connected graph

Most sites implement schema as disconnected snippets: an Organization block here, an FAQ block there, nothing referencing anything else. Search and AI systems get more value from a connected graph where the Organization, WebSite, WebPage, Service and BreadcrumbList entities reference each other by identifier.

We implement:

  • Organization with full name, address, contact details and identifiers
  • LocalBusiness for physical locations, including opening hours and geographic data
  • Service entities for each service page, linked to the provider
  • Article and FAQPage on content pages
  • BreadcrumbList connected to each WebPage node

This is not decorative. It gives machines an unambiguous description of who publishes the content and what it is about.

Writing for extraction

Content that gets quoted shares recognizable traits. We write to those traits deliberately:

  • Definition-first paragraphs. State what a thing is in a single self-contained sentence before elaborating. “GEO is the practice of…” survives being lifted out of context; “In today’s fast-moving digital landscape…” does not.
  • Explicit entity naming. Write “Google Ads” and “Moon Workshop” rather than “the platform” and “we.” Pronouns break when a passage is extracted alone.
  • Question-form headings. Headings that match how people actually ask make the matching passage easy to locate.
  • Tables and numbered lists. Structured comparisons are the easiest content type for a generative system to reuse accurately.
  • Factual specificity. Claims that can be checked. Vague superlatives are ignored by machines and distrusted by readers.
  • Visible freshness. A stated update date signals currency.

What we do not do

We do not write filler to hit a word count, publish thin pages against long-tail variants of the same query, or buy links. These tactics carry increasing risk and produce content nobody would cite voluntarily.

Content architecture around topics, not keywords

A single page cannot rank for everything, and a hundred shallow pages compete with each other. We map demand into topic clusters: one substantial pillar page covering a subject completely, supported by focused pages that each answer a specific related question, all connected by deliberate internal linking.

The cluster is designed from three inputs: search volume data, the questions your sales team actually gets asked, and the gaps in what competitors have published.

International SEO from Antalya

Moon Workshop is based in Antalya, Türkiye, and runs organic search programs for brands targeting Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States alongside the Turkish market.

Multilingual SEO fails most often on three points:

  1. Hreflang implemented incorrectly — missing return tags, wrong region codes, or annotations pointing at redirected URLs
  2. Translated keywords instead of researched ones — the literal translation of a Turkish term is frequently not what German buyers type
  3. Localized content that ignores local intent — the same product is researched differently in different markets

We research each language independently, structure URLs per language, and validate hreflang after every significant site change.

Measurement

We report organic sessions and conversions from GA4, impressions and average position from Search Console, ranking movement for tracked query sets, indexation status, and Core Web Vitals trends. For GEO we additionally check how AI answer surfaces describe the brand and whether the site is cited for the queries it should own.

Reporting is honest about attribution limits. Organic search assists conversions that other channels close, and we present it that way rather than claiming credit twice.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The topics clients ask about most before a proposal.

What is GEO and how is it different from SEO?
GEO stands for generative engine optimization, the practice of structuring content so that AI answer engines can extract, quote and attribute it correctly. SEO aims at ranking a page in a results list; GEO aims at being the source an AI answer is built from. The technical foundation overlaps heavily, but GEO puts more weight on factual clarity, quotable definitions, structured data and explicit entity naming.
How long does SEO take to produce results?
Technical fixes can affect indexation within weeks. Content-driven ranking improvements typically take three to six months to become visible and longer in competitive verticals. Anyone promising first-page rankings within a month is describing paid advertising, not organic search.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No, and no agency can. Search results depend on algorithms we do not control and on competitors who are also working. What we commit to is a documented method, a prioritized backlog, published work and transparent measurement of what changed.
Can you handle SEO in multiple languages?
Yes. Moon Workshop runs multilingual SEO projects covering Turkish, English, German and Dutch. Multilingual SEO is not translation: keyword demand, search intent and competitive structure differ per market, so each language version needs its own research and its own hreflang architecture.
Does SEO still matter if AI chatbots answer questions directly?
It matters differently. AI answer engines still draw on indexed web content, so pages that are crawlable, well structured and factually clear remain the raw material for those answers. What changes is the value of formatting: definitions, tables and direct answers get quoted, while vague marketing copy does not.
